'Paris Moon' was much more plain and subdued, but I mwas willing to attribute that to the fact that Blackmores Night's special brand of entertainment probably plays better in northern and central Europe than anywhere else.
'A Knight in York', however, seems to be another step backwards.
1 DVD with 14 songs and a few pics of downtown York.
With all the gorgeous medieval architecture in what was the English capital at some point, they picked a concert hall? No stage effects, no Sisters of the Moon (wonder why they left?), lackluster audience, the band pretty much just going through the motions.
I realize that being a mother is more important than being a songstress, but Mrs. Blackmore seems to have fully morphed into the Queen Bee of the outfit, the band being more or less just her decor.
I was never very happy with their tendency away from the Renaissance part and more towards the Rock part there are plenty enough Rock bands already, Renaissance ones, not so much and I keep hoping this trend can be reversed.
'A Knight in York' didn't do anything in that vein.

"A Knight in York" Very good , My wife and I miss the twins. BUT a very good video of current Blackmore's Night. I would not be so critical as one review listed. As no DVD is a FULL length video of a concert , or if they put it all on video ...Why Go to see them. That's a no brainer and as that person also added "poor Production" he did state he never has even seen the video yet" so how could he be talking about how it was produced???? Beats me ! He also stated that this video is 80 minutes and is actually 95 minutes. So if this guy is so willing to blow this DVD out as bad , he does need to get his facts straight. I love Richie Blackmore since 1968 and Candice Night and she has done more with him than anyone else has and they have a great sound and keep developing it as the years go on and will keep on doing so. I look forward to more live performances by them on DVD as it seems that chances are growing slim that we will see them in the United States, If they do it will be an event we will fly to see them. Red Rocks would be a great place ....Our own natural Castle...!!! BUT,,,,we do miss the twins !!!Read Best Reviews of A Knight In York (2012) Here
Both Castles & Dreams and Paris Moon were recorded on a much better night, if you know what I mean. Also, there are fewer songs than on these older DVDs, and some sound a little slower and less inspiring. There is not a whole lot of additional material either. It is still a big enjoyment to see & hear the great master of guitar. But if you look for a real treat, go see them live. Their performances are the whole another world. You can see traces of it in Castles & Dreams DVD, but not on this one. This is a nice Blackmore's Night concert DVD, but it is not great. It mostly contains material from Secret Voyage and Autumn Sky, which is good. However, it does not have the extra material that Castles & Dreams has. It just has the concert and a brief video showing the city of York. All of the songs are good, but they could have left off the last one: First of May. It just is not up to the quality of the other songs and does not sound like a Blackmore's Night song. There were also some times I had difficulty hearing what Candice was saying. In addition, there is a visit by 'Lady Gaga' which is rather tacky.
